Handwoven in pure wool in the High Atlas Mountains, Mrirt rugs are considered the most prestigious of Berber rugs. Their wool, exceptionally soft and silky, provides unparalleled comfort. They are also the densest rugs crafted by the Berber people.
The sheep's wool, carefully selected, is dyed using natural pigments in a traditional way. After weaving, each rug is thoroughly washed multiple times, a skill that reveals the unique softness and flexibility of Mrirt wool.

This Berber carpet called Mrirt gets its name from the region of Mrirt in Morocco where it was handcrafted on a traditional wooden loom. Its patterns represent the moods, loves, and sorrows of the weaver at the time of its creation. Once this colorful Berber carpet is created, she will craft another one completely different, based on her current emotions. Each piece is therefore unique.
This Berber carpet represents over a month of weaving. Watch a video to see how Them Berber carpets are created by clicking here.

Surprisingly, Berber carpets are easy to maintain. Keep in mind that these historically charged pieces are not intended primarily as decorative objects. Berber women weave and use them as blankets or rugs for insulation. The exceptional quality of the weaving allows Berber carpets to last over time and age very well.
To maintain it, you can vacuum it once a week at most to avoid damaging the wool. If you cannot shake it, turn it upside down for a few hours once a month, and all deep-seated dust will fall out. In case of a stain, tap it immediately with a cloth dampened with water, often that's enough. Otherwise, add some white vinegar or Marseille soap with plenty of water.
