Handwoven in pure wool in the High Atlas Mountains, Mrirt rugs are considered the most prestigious of Berber rugs. Their wool, exceptionally soft and silky, provides unparalleled comfort. They are also the densest rugs that the Berber people craft.
The sheep's wool, carefully selected, is dyed using natural pigments. After weaving, each rug is extensively washed several times, a craftsmanship that reveals the unique suppleness and softness of the Mrirt wool.

This Berber rug known as Mrirt takes its name from the Mrirt region in Morocco where it was handcrafted on a traditional wooden loom. Its patterns represent the weaver's moods, loves, and sorrows at the time of creation. After creating this Berber rug, she will make another one completely different, based on her current emotions. Each piece is therefore unique.
This Berber rug represents over a month of weaving. Watch a video on how Them Berber rugs are created by clicking here.

Surprisingly, Berber rugs are easy to maintain. It is important to remember that these historically significant pieces are not primarily intended as decorative objects. Berber women weave and use them as blankets or rugs for insulation. The exceptional quality of the weaving allows Berber rugs to withstand the test of time and age gracefully.
To maintain it, you can vacuum it once a week at most to avoid damaging the wool. If you cannot shake it outside, turn it over for a few hours once a month to allow deep-seated dust to fall out. In case of a stain, gently dab it with a cloth dampened with water, as this often suffices. Otherwise, add some white vinegar or Marseille soap with plenty of water.
