Handwoven in pure wool in the Atlas Mountains, Mrirt rugs are considered the most prestigious of Berber rugs. Their exceptionally soft and silky wool gives them incomparable comfort. They are also the densest rugs that the Berber people make.

The sheep's wool, carefully selected, is dyed using natural pigments. After weaving, each rug is meticulously washed multiple times, showcasing the unique suppleness and softness of Mrirt wool.

This Berber carpet called Mrirt gets its name from the Mrirt region in Morocco where it was handcrafted on a traditional wooden loom. Its patterns represent the weaver's moods, loves, and sorrows at the time of its creation. Once this Berber carpet is created, she will make another one completely different, based on her current emotions. Each piece is therefore unique.

This Berber carpet represents over a month of weaving. Watch a video to see how Them Berber carpets are made by clicking here.

How to Care for a Wool Berber Carpet?

Surprisingly, Berber carpets are easy to care for. Keep in mind that these pieces steeped in history are not primarily intended to be decorative objects. Berber women weave and use them as blankets or rugs for insulation. The exceptional quality of the weaving allows Berber carpets to last over time and age very well.

To maintain it, you can vacuum it once a week at most to avoid damaging the wool. If you cannot shake it, turn it upside down for a few hours once a month, all deep-seated dust will fall off. In case of a stain, pat it immediately with a cloth soaked in water, often that is sufficient. Otherwise, add some alcohol vinegar or Marseille soap with plenty of water.
